Under conductor and music director Robert Parker, who even led the community singing at one point, the band took to the stage in Newark’s market place to help entertain shoppers at the invitation of Newark Town Council.
The performance relayed via a giant screen for those unable to get close enough to the stage. This was followed by a musical celebration of Christmas in St Peter’s Church, Ruddington, during which the 60-strong band was joined by Ruddington & District Choral Society. All proceeds from the packed event were donated to the Alzheimer’s Society.
The band’s final Christmas commitment was to entertain residents and guests at Lark Hill retirement village in Clifton, when an enthusiastic full house enjoyed such seasonal delights as a jazzed-up Jingle Bells, a rousing version of Rudolf the red-Nosed Reindeer, a sensitive new interpretation of the Coventry Carol and a Christmas Swingalong medley of old-time favourites. The players clearly relished the concert as much as the audience, who were encouraged to participate by energetic compere Ashley Parnell.

Lark Hill Village, which opened in September 2009, is the largest retirement village in the UK. The village has fantastic facilities including a salon, gymnasium, jacuzzi, convenience store, four star restaurant, tea room, bar, library, I.T. room, craft room, woodwork room, snooker tables and a well-being area for massages, reflexology, etc.
Many people are unaware that if you are over 55 years old you can become a member of the village and enjoy all the benefits that the residents enjoy. An annual single membership costs just £40 and for a couple costs £65.
For this, you will enjoy the lower prices offered at the bar, café and restaurant. Pop and join them at the Open Day organised for Thursday 21st January from 10am to 3pm.
The village gymnasium has a special promotion day coming up on Saturday 9th January. On this day you will have the opportunity to become a member if you are aged 22 or over. For more details contact the village facilitator Steve Britton on 0115 969 5000.

A new bus service is now running providing new links for the recently opened Lark Hill development. Premiere launched the new 64 in November with hourly daytime buses from the main entrance at Lark Hill through the centre of Clifton to QMC and the City centre. The S1 Clifton shoplink service to ASDA and Morrisons has also been diverted to serve Lark Hill every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
There has also been changes to the timetable on Premiere’s 63 service linking Clifton with QMC and Beeston. Buses still run every hour but times were changed to make the service more reliable, following problems with traffic congestion. New timetables for all services are available by calling Premiere on 0115 985 1111.
