Children at Radcliffe-on-Trent Junior School learnt the art of film making during three days of workshops at the school in March. Pupils were taught how to run a film set and produce a video of the school’s production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. The workshops were led by actor Colin Wells and Nottinghamshire-based company Interaction Film, who deliver workshops in community and corporate settings to encourage communication skills, literacy, confidence and team building.
Colin has been a regular face on television for 25 years. He is best known for his roles in Hollyoaks and Crossroads, as well as regular features in Casualty and The Bill. Radcliffe Junior School and Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cultural Services team worked together to run the workshops.
Colin said: “It was very exciting working with the school and the children on their production, and I would like to thank Rushcliffe for bringing us together.”

St. Giles are staging a passion play in the Church from Monday 29th March to Wednesday 31st March 2010. This is the first time for many years that a dramatic event of this nature is being performed in the church and the cast of 13 is made up of St. Giles’ members.
This moving play, written by the late Betty Haworth, is based on the dramatic events in the hours before the crucifixion of Jesus and is also based on the account of St. John.
The scenes are set in the courtyard of Pontius Pilate’s house and the play explores the mind games played between Pilate and the High Priest and the ever increasing doubts and fears of Pilate and his wife Procula and then the realisation of what the finale of Jesus’ life will be.
Director, Tony Vokes, told The Local News: “This is a wonderful challenge for all those involved, for the cast, the production team and for those working hard behind-the-scenes backstage.”
Tickets are £5 for adults, £4 for senior citizens and students and £2.50 for young people up to and including the age of 16. They can be obtained from the Box Office by calling 0115 984 7749, or from members of St. Giles Church. Tickets will also be on sale at the door for each performance.
Performances commence at 7.30pm and will last for approximately one hour. Refreshments will be served after each performance.

Wheelchair access and toilet facilities are available in Grange Hall which also has a hearing loop for the hard of hearing. The bar in Grange Hall opens for drinks before the show and during the interval.

The dark winter nights are about to be enlivened by West Bridgford Dramatic Society’s (WBDS) next production, ‘Allo ‘Allo. Based on the hugely-popular TV series, the play will be performed at WBDS’ own Studio Theatre from Tuesday 23rd February to Saturday 6th March, including a 2.30pm matinee performance on the 6th March. Evening performances start at 7:30pm.
The stage version of ‘Allo ‘Allo follows the adventures of Rene, the hapless cafe owner in war-torn France, as he and his wife Edith struggle to keep for themselves a priceless portrait of the Fallen Madonna stolen by the Nazis and kept in their cellar. Hilarious complications ensue, featuring two British airmen, a radio disguised as a cockatoo and a knockwurst sausage.
Familiar characters such as “Good moaning” Crabtree, “I shall say this only once,” Michelle, and “Whata mistakea to makea,” Bertorelli return to delight audiences.
The show’s director, Chris Robinson , told The Local News: “Rehearsals are well underway and we’re having great fun. There are moments of high farce than have reduced us to helpless laughter, the fake accents are really appalling (as they should be) and gathering and creating the long list of props and costumes is well underway. We can’t wait to get on stage with it.”
Tickets are £7 (£6 concessions) and can be booked online at ticketsource.co.uk/wbds or by calling the Box Office on 07960 99 2196. The ticket price includes a buffet provided by WBDS’s near neighbour, The Willow Tree Pub, from 6.45pm to 7.15pm on production of confirmation of booking.
West Bridgford Dramatic Society puts on a variety of plays throughout the year ranging from comedies, through costume dramas to modern day thrillers. They have our own purpose-built theatre and meet every Tuesday for a variety of events, whether it is to watch one of the productions, or to indulge in a ‘social’. Socials have included a bowls nights, unrehearsed play readings, race nights etc. and everyone is welcome to attend.
