CHRISTMAS IN CLIFTON 2010

Look out for the Christmas in Clifton Event taking place on Friday 3rd December. There’s the Santa’s Grotto at Clifton Library at 2pm with refreshments and fun for the kids.
Local volunteer, Barbara Judd, said: “Come and have a nice hot cup of tea while your kids enjoy the festivities.”
There’ll be singing round the tree with Glapton and Dovecote both performing again this year – see them from 3pm.
At 4.30pm, the winners of the Christmas tree decoration colouring competition will be announced. After the Christmas speech from Councillor Malcolm, the winners get to switch on the lights at around 4.45pm. All of this takes place outside the shops on Southchurch Drive.

CHRISTMAS LIBRARY EVENTS

On Thursday 16th December, Clifton Library Reading Group will be discussing ‘Period Piece’ by Gwen Raverat (Charles Darwin’s granddaughter) from 10.15-11.30am.
On Thursday 6th January 2011, Clifton Library Second Half Club invites you to hear a talk on the history of the Galleries of Justice, with a display of artefacts. This runs from 10.30-11.30am and for more details on these events call 0115 915 2945.

SANTA’S GO ON THE RUN

There are two ‘Santas on the Run’ events taking place in Rushcliffe this year. The first event takes place on Sunday 28th November at 10.30am at Rushcliffe Country Park, located in Ruddington. People are being urged to dress up like Santa to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The Cystic Fibrosis Trust has organised the Santa fun run and stroll to raise money for gene therapy research and help the 8,500 young people in the UK who have cystic fibrosis. Registration is £6 or £3 for children and each Santa is asked to raise £35 in sponsorship money. Contact Stephanie Henderson-Barrett on 0300 373 1026 or send an email to

The second event takes place on Sunday 19th December at 11am, and this also takes place at Rushcliffe Country Park. It is an enjoyable 2.5 mile fun run. Everyone is asked to try and raise a minimum of £20 in sponsorship for Rainbows hospice for children and young people.Tickets cost £10 for adults and £7 for children (under-13). The price includes entry and a Santa suit that can be collected on the day.

CHRISTMAS MAGIC ON MELTON ROAD

Make a note of the date Sunday 5th December from 12noon to 4pm, as the Melton Road retailers and local residents will bring you some Christmas cheer. Take in the atmosphere as you stroll along the Christmas Fayre along Melton Road.
During the day there will festive carols and live music, gifts from your local shops, wine tasting, a raffle, or simply take away the chill with hot chocolate, mulled wine, mince pies and other tasty treats.
Several shops are providing free activities. There’s Greenergy decorations making with Slades, gingerbread men decorating with Taste, Christmas Cracker making with Scotts the newsagents and Beading with Bead by Bead, to name but a few. There’s a special children’s performance at Pierrepont Gamston School, Coledale. Circus Berzercus presents ‘The Komedy of Errors’ on Wednesday 8th December at 6.30pm.

HERMITAGE RECEIVE DONATION

The Hermitage Pre-school children and staff were very grateful for the donation of £200 from the Shepshed Building Society in October. A presentation was held during one of the sessions and the children were thrilled to be awarded with the big cheque by Cheryl Eames.
The money was spent on art and craft materials to help the children learn about bonfire night, the Diwali Festival of Lights and Christmas.
The Pre-school are holding their annual fundraising Christmas Fair on Saturday 27th November from 10am until 12.30pm at St Peter’s Rooms. There’ll be mince pies, Santa, games, raffle and a chocolate tombola.

CHRISTMAS BY CANDLELIGHT

Santa Claus will be returning to his magical grotto at The Ruddington Framework Knitters Museum this year over an extended two-day period. You can visit from 4-7pm on Friday 10th December or from 3-6pm on Saturday 11th December 2010.

IT’S CHRISTMAS FAYRE TIME

The Cotgrave Church of England Primary School PTA Christmas Fayre takes place on Friday 26th November from 6-8pm. There’s various stalls, raffle, tombola, bar and refreshments.

CHRISTMAS ON THE TERRACE IN RADCLIFFE

On Saturday 4th December, the shop keepers of Station Terrace in Radcliffe are inviting you to join them in celebrating Christmas. Festivities start at 10am when you may see Santa arriving at Platform 29. There will be a children’s Christmas reindeer treasure hunt with a prize. You can also go along in fancy dress as there will be a prize for the best dressed Christmas character, and note there will be no age restriction on this one.

Buy a ticket for the Christmas raffle which will be drawn later in the day at the Royal Oak, where there will be a complimentary glass of mulled cider to keep out the cold. You might win one of the spectacular prizes donated by the local businesses. All proceeds are going to a local charity, so join in and you may pick up a bargain while being part of Christmas on the Terrace.
