Local bus operator Premiere Travel has cut some fares to make them simple and easier to use. On the companies Red1 service, from Bingham and Radcliffe to Nottingham, a single fare has been cut by up to 30p to just £2 and 10trip tickets reduced by a £1 to only £15. Some new fares have also been added,
including a reduced price 10trip ticket for under 22s – this costs just £10. The 10trip tickets do not expire until all 10 single trips have been used up. The company has also introduced a 2trip ticket, again with no expiry date for £3.50, a Duo ticket for two people travelling together and a Trio ticket for three people using the bus at the same time. Under-16s can also travel for free with Duo, Trio and all unlimited travel tickets.
Premiere brand manager, Jamie Swift, said: “At a time when the price of everything else seems to be rising, we have decided to actually cut the price of some fares. The new fares, such as the group Duo and Trio tickets, include up to two under-16s travelling for free. Also, the Buzz tickets for under-22s are proving very popular, so we have added a new 10trip ticket for just £10. All are available to buy on the bus.”

Local bus operator Premiere is extending their £1 single fare to more routes in the West Bridgford area. The ‘Town for £1’ fares have been tried on other premiere routes from Long Eaton and Hucknall to Nottingham, and have proved extremely successful in tempting commuters from their cars onto the bus.
The promotion has now been extended to Radcliffe Road and Loughborough Road into Nottingham city centre. Customers can use the Red1 service running every 15 minutes from all stops from The Bridge At Gamston down Radcliffe Road, and on the Red9 service every 30 minutes from Ruddington and all stops along Loughborough Road to the City.
The single fare is just £1 at all times and no cards or vouchers are needed. For timetables visit the website at premierebuses.co.uk.

The owner of a local bus company has apologised to his customers following news that their route will be axed. Premiere boss, Steve Greaves, says he is “gutted” that the Red2 service to Cotgrave has to finish in September and feels he has let local people down.
The route went head-to-head with the established Trentbarton Cotgrave Connection and when launched last September, offered people a faster journey into Nottingham, a link to Victoria Centre and cheaper fares.
But a well-documented bus war broke out, with Trentbarton owners Wellglade also launching a new service called Bargain Bus and offering fares at just 50p a trip. This was later increased to £1 and now Premiere claim the long-term affects of this discounted pricing has meant they cannot continue.
Mr Greaves told The Local News: “We started with all the best intentions of providing bus users in Cotgrave a choice of operator, but with the Bargain Bus running just in front of us offering such a cheap fare, we too had to drop our prices to compete. We have gained plenty of loyal customers that I thank very much for their business but the fact is that the fare they are paying is just not covering the costs of running the service.
“One year on, we have lost so much money on the Red2 that I can no longer put the future of my business at risk by losing this money every day. We could put the fares up but would lose more customers than the extra revenue we would gain.
“If we were a big company with millions in the bank I would continue but as a small family business we have to cut our losses. It is with great regret that the Red2 has to finish and I just feel gutted and that I have let the Cotgrave people down.
“Our competitor has got what they have battled for – the monopoly has been restored and again they can charge whatever they want and run whenever they want. It cannot be right that one company can run two services – one cheap and one expensive, to squeeze the competition out. I know the Competition Commission and Office Of Fair Trading is currently investigating these types of situations.”
The last Red2 bus will run on Saturday 3rd September.

Nottingham City Transport have taken delivery of five new Optare Solo SR 2011-plate buses. The buses will run on the number 11 route which serves Lady Bay.
Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT’s marketing manager, told The Local News: “These are the greenest midi-buses in our fleet and their low emissions are up to Euro Five Standard. The order cost £500,000 and they are worth every penny. They are very fuel efficient, British-built and are finished to the highest standard, including leather-effect seats.
“The buses have real-time GPS tracking and so customers waiting at a stop will see how far away their bus is, with a countdown. The audio announcements for stops along the route will also be fitted in the bus.”
The buses are fitted with a revolutionary eco-dash facility that monitors driver performance and the system can monitor acceleration, breaking, cornering and economy.
“This is a great feature and it can really make sure we are making the most of the buses and the drivers are being fuel efficient,” added Carver-Smith.
“There are 19 more of these Optare’s coming later in the year and they will be used on routes north of the county. With refurbishment continuing on some of our older fleet and 32 brand-new double deckers on the way, NCT will become 100% wheelchair accessible.”

Local bus operator Premiere Travel has slashed the price of some of its fares to tempt more motorists to leave their cars at home and try the bus. The company that runs routes from Bingham, Radcliffe, Cotgrave and Keyworth to Nottingham, says the rising costs of motoring are making more people see bus travel as a more cost effective way to get around. Now as part of the company’s ‘March Madness’ fare offers campaign, the cost of a 14-day unlimited travel ticket on its buses has been slashed to just £20.
Brand manager, Jamie Swift, told us: “Customer growth so far this year on our routes such as Red1 from Bingham and Radcliffe, and the Red2 from Cotgrave has been phenomenal and this must be down to more people leaving their cars at home. Big rises in fuel prices and costs of car parking in the city centre mean commuters can make massive savings by using the bus. With our March Madness fare offers, the £20 14-day ticket means customers making a return trip five-days-a-week travel for just £1 a trip, which is fantastic value.”
The 14-day ticket can be bought from the driver on any Premiere bus and used for unlimited travel across the premiere network for a fortnight. Premiere are also offering fans of its Facebook group special fares discounts. On ‘Facebook Wednesdays’ customers will get a new offer to use on Premiere buses every week, just search ‘Premiere’ on Facebook and become a fan. For more information call 0115 985 1111 or see premierebuses.co.uk

The Government-funded scheme allows free travel for older and disabled people between 9.30am and 11pm each weekday and all day at weekends and on bank holidays.
The Council-funded additions to the scheme, which are unchanged from 2010/2011, allow free travel for companions of disabled people and free tram travel (or half-fares between 4pm and 6pm on weekdays).
From the start of the financial year (Friday 1 April 2011), bus passes will be issued by the County Council, instead of each district council.

Residents in Cotgrave will have even more buses to Nottingham when one of their three bus services increases in frequency at the end of February. The Midland General ‘Bargain Bus’, run by Wellglade, who also own TrentBarton, will now run every 20 minutes to Broadmarsh. The service was set up in response to Premiere’s Red2 that launched last September, offering bus users in Cotgrave an alternative to the then only Cotgrave Connection service.
To block the Premiere Red2, a route called 99p started running just in front of some Red2 trips. The name was later changed to Bargain Bus and fares were dropped to 50p a trip. The price was then doubled in December when it was revealed that the 50p fare was just a promotion and all fares were really a £1, which angered many customers. Now in the next phase of the so called bus war, the Bargain Bus will run more buses all just in front of Premiere’s Red2 trips.
Premiere brand manager, Jamie Swift, told The Local News: “We launched our Red2 in Cotgrave to offer bus users there a choice. They had been stuck with one service for many years, that they told us could be unreliable and fares were considered high. We have had a fantastic response from local residents but our competitor is desperate to restore their monopoly, hence this Bargain Bus service.
“They have done the same thing in Stapleford, which has resulted in the withdrawal of our service there because we were not getting enough customers to cover our costs. Now six weeks after our service finished, the Bargain Bus service is no longer serving Stapleford, so customers there are back to one busy service and have lost their choice.
“We sincerely hope the same thing does not happen in Cotgrave and if our customers stay loyal to Premiere then the Red2 will stay. Customers are also warned that the Bargain Bus is changing their route number to ’2′, so with their red buses people may get confused and get on there thinking it is a Premiere Red2 bus.”

While I can understand the disappointment of David of Lady Bay and Steve Westby of Radcliffe over the reduction in the travel concessions, I would like to make a few points on the matter.
Firstly, the country is in a mess financially thanks to private and public borrowing on a manic scale. Blame whoever you like but the fact remains that one in every four pounds of public spending has been borrowed and will accumulate more interest until it has been paid back. Many public employees are losing their jobs as a result of cuts and they have to pay their bus fares.
Secondly, this is still a valuable concession and they should be grateful what they have rather than moaning about what has been lost. If you are a pensioner, have a lie-in and stroll down for the 09:31 bus.
My third point is that they are fortunate in having buses that run after 23:00. Many Notts residents are not so lucky. Think positive – we are getting 13-and-a-half hours of free travel every day.
If you travel on the bus after 11pm you must pay full fare. This for me means £3.30 for a one-way journey.
Older people have paid large amounts in taxes over the years and are fully entitled to this concession.
I feel this is mean-spirited and pointless and I certainly will not be travelling and paying this sum.
