Hayley is a former pupil and now a West End professional. She led a three-day dancing, singing and drama workshop based on Grease. It coincided nicely with the Grease the Musical UK tour coming to the The Royal Centre in Nottingham during the same week.
Hayley was also able to arrange a backstage tour for the workshop participants and invite Natalie Dignam, a dancer from the show, to come and meet the children and teach them on the last day. To an audience of over 70 parents, the children performed song and dance routines, interspersed with acted scenes from the musical. They wore costumes supplied by the dance school and accessories, which they had made during the workshop.
KSTD will be running another musical-based workshop in the summer holiday. For more details call Kirsty on 07914 578 440 or Ann on 0115 937 5150. You can also visit the website keyworthschooloftheatredance.co.uk.

He will be going the extra mile to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, the charity dedicated to finding better treatments and cures for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Peter is hoping as many people as possible willjoin him and his family in walking to beat blood cancers.
He was inspired to organise the event after his wife Pat died unexpectedly, against medical predictions.
The walk will be held at Rushcliffe Country Park on Saturday 23rd June and take in
a choice of three routes from half-a-mile, 1.2 miles, or 5k (three miles), starting and finishing at the Experian Environmental Education Visitor Centre, where refreshments from Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park will be available.
Dan Solley, head of sports events at Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, said: “Walking is a great way for people of all ages to help raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Every penny raised will be invested in research that is finding better treatments for patients with all blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.”
You can support Peter and his family as they walk to beat blood cancers by visiting their fundraising page justgiving.com/Peter-Burnett. There is also more information

Cotgrave Service Station is celebrating winning the ‘Best in Region’ category at Jet’s annual ‘Aim4Success’ awards, just months after receiving a ‘Forecourt Trader’ accolade last year. Cotgrave Service Station beat over 50 other stations in the Midlands to win the award, which recognises high levels of customer service, health and safety, employee training and local community support at Jet service stations. In total, 350 stations throughout the UK were eligible to take part.
This year’s judges were particularly impressed by the efforts of staff at the station to improve the facilities and health and safety, as well as excellent standards of customer service. At the start of 2011, four new petrol pumps and a new unleaded tank were installed to make both petrol and diesel available to both sides of the pump islands and a new services area has been built, offering customers the use of air, water, a jet wash and
a vacuum. Widening the entrance allows larger commercial vehicles and SUVs to access the site, plus a new entry for fuel deliveries and undercover offset filling points means that refuelling can be carried out with minimum disruption to customers.
Lee Whiteman, owner of Cotgrave Service Station, told The Local News: “We are delighted to receive this recognition from Jet, which is a real credit to the dedication and hard work of all the staff here. I am passionate about continuing to improve the business that my grandfather set up over 50
years ago.”
Guy Pulham, manager of regional sales at Jet, added: “Excellent standards and service are vital to guarantee a satisfying customer experience. Cotgrave Service Station is a real credit to the Jet brand and we’re delighted to be able to recognise and reward its commitment to delivering incredibly high standards.”

By Sylvia Aldworth
Rehearsals are continuing for the Bingham and District Choral Society’s (BDCS) 40th Anniversary Concert on Sunday 20th May (7.30pm) at the Albert Hall in Nottingham. We will be singing ‘A Serenade to Music’ by Ralph Vaughan Williams and ‘A Child of our Time’ by Michael Tippett with the Mansfield Choral Society.
We will be accompanied in these two very different works by the Orchestra da Camera, who will also play ‘Walk to the Paradise Garden’ by Frederick Delius. Our musical director for 40 years, Neville Ward, will conduct and we have four superb soloists, Sally Harrison (soprano), Fiona Kimm (mezzo soprano), James Edwards (tenor) and the rich bass of Njabula Madlala.
Tickets are now on sale from BDCS members, Nottingham Tourism (located on 1-4 Smithy Row) or via 08444 775 678. You can also call telephone 01949 839 991 and details will be on the website binghamchoral.org.uk. This concert is being sponsored by Callcredit.
A Child of our Time, completed in 1942, is a response to the persecution of a young Jewish boy in the Second World War and as relevant today as it was then. The outcast, the child, stands up against the tyrant who responds with yet more persecution. The music, at times jagged, at times showing
a lyrical sweetness, includes the wonderful settings of five Negro Spirituals. This is an inspired work with complex and challenging choral and orchestral scoring. Please put the date in your diaries or book now.

Bingham author Peter Youds has just published a new book about the extraordinary events in Spain 200 years ago when, in a few short hours, local Nottinghamshire soldiers went from being the toast of the army to the scoundrels of Europe.
‘The Blast of War’, the fifth novel in Peter’s acclaimed Ties of Blood series, continues to recount the romance and adventure of the redcoats’ war against Napoleon. In particular, the story details the amazing events of the siege of Badajoz – telling the tale of bravery and gallantry quickly yielding to disgrace and dishonour.
Peter said: “The Sherwood Foresters were right at the heart of the action, both good and bad. The true history of what happened in 1812 is extraordinary. It’s my job to bring out the drama of it all in a way that really hooks the reader.”
There’s more about the Ties of Blood series online at bicorn.co.uk.
