RUBBISH BURNING

I would like to know why there are so many nights where rubbish is being burned around here? As an asthmatic, it really upsets my breathing. Having to close all the windows in summer isn’t a good option. I regularly see smoke at the allotments near Silverdale. Gemma Nash Clifton  Read More →

CITY COUNCIL AND A453

I always look forward to the arrival of the Local News. It keeps us in touch with what’s happening in this area, particularly with items concerning the A453 and the wind turbines by the River Trent. It was encouraging to read about the delegation meeting the transport secretary about the A453. The first thing that hit me when reading the article was where was the Nottingham City Council representative... Read More

NO NEED FOR TRAM & NEW A453

Why widen the A453 and why build the tram system in Clifton, including a park and ride? East Midlands Parkway station opened last year and is ideally located as a park and ride, so that traffic from that point would be reduced, negating the need to widen  the A453. Clifton has the benefit of various bus services and as such does no need years of ground works taking place for a tram system that I can’t... Read More

AVENUE NEEDS SUPERMARKET

I am surprised there is no supermarket on Central Avenue. I know M&S is close by and Co-Op by the library but surely it would make sense for a Tesco Express to take up residence in West Bridgford. They seem to be popping up everywhere else in Nottingham and beyond and obviously do a roaring trade. I am sure one on Central Avenue would do excellent trade throughout the day and evening. The choice... Read More

NEED BETTER SHOPS IN CLIFTON

I totally agree with both Barnze and Robert (issue 103) about the shopping in Clifton.  For an estate this size the shopping facilities are pathetic. It’s not just the ‘Top Shops’ that need a revamp. Since Kwik Save at the top of the estate and the Co-op at the bottom of the estate have gone, the only choice is Morrisons. They now have a monopoly and their rising prices reflect that. What... Read More

WE ALL WANT TO PARK CLOSER

I agree that Morrisons’ customers with small children do need more space for prams pushchairs etc, but everyone likes to park as near to the store as possible, especially when it is raining. If they were at the far end, further from the danger of passing cars, surely everyone would be happy? Tony Clifton  Read More →

SPEED BUMPS STILL A NIGHTMARE

I refer to Martin’s letter in August’s Local News. Why do some patronising people feel they have a right to comment about an area they don’t live in? The speed bumps are a nightmare on our cars. Living in Silverdale, who gave Martin the knowledge as to what’s happening to our cars? Being an humble Cliftoner with an average car (not a boy racer mobile), I feel we can speak without guesswork. I... Read More

MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH SOCIETY

I completely agree with Mark’s comment (Local News – August) and cannot stand the reaction of people who are quite obviously in the wrong. I have three children seats in my car and have a disabled badge for my son, who has cerebral palsy. If they aren’t in the car with me, I will park in the furthest space away from the entrance to avoid taking a space I shouldn’t – only to... Read More

EVERYONE WANTS GOOD PARKING

I agree that Morrisons’ customers with small children do need more space for prams and pushchairs, but everyone likes to park as near to the store as possible, especially when it is raining. Why do the family parking spaces need to be so close to the front? If they were at the far end, further from the danger of passing cars, surely everyone would be happy? Tony  Read More →

THINGS AREN’T SO BAD

To all these people slating Morrisons in Clifton, saying the Bulwell one was cheaper etc. I think you’ll find that Morrisons have the same prices in all stores regardless of size or location. Also I find them as cheap as any other big supermarket, it just depends on what offers they have on, as with all supermarkets. All prices are rising in all supermarkets as with the VAT increase, increases... Read More
