YOUNGSTERS CAUSING HASSLE
We feel compelled to respond to the letter from SM of Radcliffe who puts the blame for broken fencing along the Cliff Top on older dog walkers. We assume SM’s views are based on hearsay or why else haven’t they named and shamed the culprits to the local police or parish council? Is this the reason they also have not had the courage to put their full name on their letter? As residents who... Read More
ARMY CAREER CLAIM FROM LOCAL YOUNGSTERS
I write in reference to a recent letter in your newspaper from SM (Local News – June) concerning vandalism on Cliff Walk. My experience has been that children do take down the Chestnut fencing in order to play on the side of the cliff. When I remonstrated with some boys I was told that they were going into the army. Is this how they are trained? F. Price Read More →
ROAD RESURFACING PROBLEMS IN RADCLIFFE
Is it time that the main road that runs through Radcliffe-on-Trent was resurfaced? It is in an appalling state, as one rumbles along and the wheels judder over pot-holes and poorly filled in previous roadworks over the years. It has been filled over with myriads of repair joins that have now sunk below the surface. This causes both car wheels to bang together at the same time, increasing the pronunciation... Read More
NO SURPRISE ON A453 SETBACK
The A453 widening was almost ready to go when Labour came into office in 1997. One of the first things they did was to cancel the programme. Thirteen years later the Tories get into power and the same thing happens once again. Yet it looks as if the stupid ‘white elephant’ tram extension is going ahead at double the cost of the A453 widening programme. What are our politicians thinking... Read More
WHY NOT TURN CLIFTON HALL INTO A MUSEUM?
Clifton Hall, due to its position and its age, is rather a white elephant, but it could be used in the community sense, as a museum with a centre for arts, culture and local history. The Woolworths building, located on Southchurch Drive, would make a fine emporium or indoor market. The Woolworths Emporium could be a business outlet for art, literacy and community work, produced at a creativity-based... Read More
UNTIDY STATE OF AFFAIRS ON LANGTHWAITE ROAD
I write in reference to the poor state of the trees overhanging the pavement, all the way from the Clifton part of Langthwaite Road on to Bainton Road. When it rains the puddles collect in the gutters and traffic goes roaring past and soaks you through. Some drivers strangely find this funny. Also, when the crows and pigeons roost at night, the droppings are all over the pavement which we have to walk... Read More
PEDESTRIAN CROSSING NEEDED
We feel that there is an urgent need for a controlled pedestrian crossing on Southchurch Drive, close to the Rivergreen Medical Centre. There are times when we stand, hearts in mouth, as people alight from buses and then attempt to run the gauntlet directly across Southchurch Drive. There is a refuge type crossing at the junction of Rivergreen, but sadly this is often ignored. While there may be other... Read More
EMBARRASSED AT CLIFTON
Is it just me or does anyone else feel ashamed when coming past the shops opposite the library in Clifton? The flats above look a mess and are a disgrace. I have always been proud to say I live in Clifton but am embarrassed when friends come to visit and they come along Southchurch Drive. It’s about time they cleaned up that area and got rid of the outdated stalls which they call a market. Let... Read More
NO RESPECT FOR OTHERS
Regarding the Central Avenue issue I have to say the arrival of so called ‘up-market’ Cafe culture eatieries and associated ‘Tat Emporiums’ have led to a huge increase in the 4×4 driver. It seems they are oblivious to the Highway Code and all its implications. It seems as long as you put hazard warning lights on, and wear your sunglasses on top of your head you can do as... Read More
SHOP CHANGES
The article in your May edition prompts me to comment on the vacant property located at Gordon Square in West Bridgford. I noticed that a temporary sign on the premises announces the fact that a new ‘One-Stop’ shop is to open there mid-June. This mini-supermarket outlet will apparently be open for business early morning to late at night. I wonder how many residents in the area (and possibly the... Read More
