This fantastic experience will be invaluable in following her dream of attending university, where she will study Environmental Biology.
Danielle told The Local News: “I would like a career to work with African people and show them the importance of conserving and living in harmony with the wildlife they see around them.”
The project is going to cost Danielle £2,500 and considering she is only 17, this is quite a tall order. However, help has been at hand in the form of Dawn’s Cards of Clifton and her customers, who are helping to sponsor Danielle in her project.
Dawn told The Local News: “She is a very passionate young girl and I have known Danielle and her family for many years. We should encourage this sort of enthusiasm as there’s so much bad press labelled on young people these days.
“Danielle is a shining beacon amongst her peers and she has the determination rarely seen in most people these days. So it is nice to be able to try and help make her dream come true.”
Any donations can be left at Dawn’s Cards, which is located next to Boots on Southchurch Drive in Clifton.
Danielle added: “I would like to thank all the people of Clifton who have helped by giving donations already. I am very grateful and hope to reach the target of the full amount in the next couple of weeks.”
Danielle leaves for her trip to South Africa on Tuesday 17th August.

The WISE project offers help and advice to schools on waste. Practical support is also provided through exciting activities on reducing, reusing, repairing, recycling of waste.
The school have successfully completed pledges looking at how to reduce, reuse, repair and recycle and have participated in activities set by the Sustainability Education Officer at Nottingham City Council.
The school has successfully reduced the amount of food waste and have created ‘love food hate waste’ posters for dining areas to encourage children to eat all their lunchboxes or food on their plates. To run alongside this they held a ‘waste free lunch’ challenge day in the school by holding a competition between classes by collecting and weighing waste to see which class produces the least.
Whitegate Primary School also mentioned their involvement in Wise in the schools newsletter and on their website and has incorporated the national recycling logo and strap line into the school letter.
To continue the behavioural change across the school, targets have also been set in the WISE action plans to revamp paper recycling by introducing new recycling monitors and recycling bins in classrooms; to reduce the contamination of the recycling bins and to reduce the amount of organic waste generated from fruit by deciding on the best location for new compost bins and order caddies for fruit waste to be transferred to compost bins.
Councillor Katrina Bull, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change at Nottingham City Council, said: “Everyone at Whitegate Primary School has worked hard to achieve the objectives set out in the WISE project and have made a real difference to their environment.
“We hope projects like WISE will encourage young people to take ideas and activities home to their parents or carers so the whole family can be educated about living in a more environmentally friendly way.”

The volunteers and staff of the local Victim Support were warmly praised at their recent annual review meeting held in the city.
Victim Support’s regional manager, Joe Brazil, told The Local News: “The evening provided Victim Support with the opportunity to creatively demonstrate to our friends, partners and supporters a sample of the services we provide throughout the count of Nottinghamshire.”
Joe spoke about the new National Victims Service -
a joined-up approach to assisting crime victims. He also outlined the developing one-to-one work with homicide victims, to which the government had devoted £2m this year nationally.
Four new anti-social behaviour co-workers spoke on their work within specific local communities. A victim warmly thanked the organisation for the help she and her family had received following a harrowing period due to abuse from neighbours.
Divisional manager, Olwen Edwards, said: “The committed and caring volunteers offered assistance to about 30,000 crime victims and 7,000 witnesses at Criminal and Coroner’s Courts.
“They also assisted over 600 victims with Criminal Injuries Compensation applications and 13% of their work had been with non-crimed incidents.
“We cannot get away from being a charity and one that is reliant on donations, sponsorship or grants. So we must thank those organisations that have invested in us this year.”

Hosted by Sandra Morrey, president of the Rotary Club of West Bridgford, the assembled group of candidates, parents, supporters and Rotarians, listened intently to what the nominees had achieved in our community.
Every young person received a parchment certificate to add to their school Record of Achievement, a valuable document when applying for higher education or jobs. The nominations were considered by a team of four adults with no connections to any candidate, chaired by Rotarian Trevor Greaves, who is also a magistrate. Choosing between the candidates was a major task, but three young people, Daniel Brown (16), Becky Howie (16) and Joe Wright (17), were nominated overall winners.
The achievements of the other young people were also highly commended, including Nathan Ledger (17), Olivia Cottee (14), Joanna Hudspeth (15), Tanicha Simpson (15), Keelan Barker (16), Shaun Bentley (16), Yusaf Paterson-Mosafeer (18) and Kieran Robinson (15).

Residents across Clifton, Silverdale and Wilford can now recycle household batteries as part of a pilot initiative launched last month. Nottingham City Council has introducing battery recycling to help residents recycle more of their waste. They have supplied households with a small plastic bag to put their batteries in which they can then leave out for collection on recycling day.
Hundreds of batteries have already been recycled since the launch in early June. Nottingham residents get through nearly three-million household batteries every year, which together weighed nearly 100 tonnes. In 2009, over 99% of these ended up in either landfill or incineration.
On the day of collection, residents are asked to secure the bag and place it on the lid of their recycling bin. Nottingham City Council will then leave an empty bag when the bag is collected for further battery recycling. All common household batteries are accepted as well as button, power tool, lantern, laptop and mobile phone batteries. Car/automotive or industrial batteries or other electrical equipment such as fuses and plugs unfortunately can not be collected and recycling through this scheme.
Councillor Katrina Bull, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change at Nottingham City Council, said: “Over the last year or so, we have received a large number of enquiries with regards to batteries and how they can be recycled.
“We have listened to those voices and I am delighted that we can launch a scheme which will make it easier to recycle household batteries. Those covered by this trial have this ideal opportunity to reduce the environmental impact on the way they disposed of.”
For further information about this scheme please call 0115 915 2000 or visit nottinghamcity.gov.uk

It has been thought the project would be dumped as part of cost-cutting measures by the new collation Government, but further lines to Clifton via Silverdale and Chilwell via Beeston, are still on the agenda.
A group of local Liberal Democrat and Labour councillors recently travelled to the Palace of Westminster to meet Norman Baker.
Labour’s Jane Urquhart said: “It is not just the Labour party supporting it, the tram extension has support from other parties. We talked to him (Norman Baker) about how advanced our plans were and he was positive about light rail and made it clear he was a supporter.”

The aim is to raise money for club funds, to increase the standard of their facilities and to carry on with working with the local community. The club has a girls team, one ladies team, 14 junior teams and three men’s teams, and 16,000 children have come through their doors over the years.
