BOTTESFORD GALA A SUCCESS
By Matt Burton
The Bank Holiday Gala event in Bottesford proved once again to be a great success, not even the typical Bank Holiday weather could dampen the spirits of around 2,000 visitors of all ages who attended during the day.
Highlights of the day included a number of dance shows from local groups, including Lisa Murray’s School of Dance, Ann Gibbons’ Dance School and Caroline McManus Irish School of Dance. The crowd were also treated to the Eastwood Marching Band, who led the traditional May Queen parade to open the event. Despite the slippy underfoot conditions, the traditional tug-o-war competition was held, where Vale of Belvoir Lions defended their unbeaten record, until the children at the event were invited to take the Lions on, and duly won an easy victory.
Crowds were well catered for with many stalls both inside and out, bar and barbeque and a number of other attractions kept all-comers entertained throughout the day.
