NO NEED FOR TRAM & NEW A453
Why widen the A453 and why build the tram system in Clifton, including a park and ride? East Midlands Parkway station opened last year and is ideally located as a park and ride, so that traffic from that point would be reduced, negating the need to widen the A453.
Clifton has the benefit of various bus services and as such does no need years of ground works taking place for a tram system that I can’t see would be widely used.

Regarding Mike Simson letter 9.11.2011 – Does he know how much of the traffic using the A453 is ‘park & ride’ type traffic. In my view not a lot – shall we say 2 or 3 % and that I believe is on the generous side so how will a park & ride at parkway make any difference to the congestion. Not a lot !
‘Let it be – let it be, dualling for the 453′ – (all together now !)

Bring on the tram system and dual the 453 asap,Lest get traffic and public service users moving.
What is the point of the widening the a453 – it will just be a wider car park at rush hour. The problem isn’t the number of lanes it is getting out of the road at either end and this congestion won’t be solved by tarmacing over more countyside.
The tram will make a difference – keep the cars out at the motorway and ride in.
