RADCLIFFE JUNIOR SCHOOL WINS GOOD SPORTS AWARD
After being the first ever winners of the award, Radcliffe Junior School has now become the 24th and final winner of the Nottinghamshire County Council Dick Chester Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship in mini-basketball. Basketball development officer, Jimmy Smith, and members of last year’s winning team, Cotgrave Candleby Lane Primary School, presented the award at the 24th Nottinghamshire Mini-Basketball... RUDDINGTON’S ROYAL RENDEZVOUS
By Graham Wright Residents bordering Elms Park in Ruddington had a bit of a surprise last month when a senior member of the Royal Family dropped in on them – quite literally! All eyes turned skyward on the 23rd of May as the Queen’s helicopter suddenly appeared and descended noisily onto the playing field – before unloading Prince Andrew and his entourage into waiting vehicles. An onlooker... Read More
IT REALLY IS A SMALL WORLD
For some years, Bingham Model Railway Club (BMRC) had a member, Aleks Porock, who lived in Radcliffe-on-Trent. Aleks, before moving to Radcliffe, was a member of the Australian Model Railway Association (AMRA) in Perth. They have an exhibition layout called ‘Haltwhistle’,although they thought Haltwhistle was in the Yorkshire Dales rather than in Northumberland. BMRC member, Graham Dean, also... Read More
SUCCESS FOR UNDER-10S
Radcliffe Olympic Under-10s had a very successful first season in competitive football. Starting out in the YEL Division Four (Sat) they finished runners-up to Hucknall Harriers, only missing out by one point. They ended their inaugural season by winning the YEL President’s Cup. The Radcliffe youngsters beat a strong Wilford Lions side 1-0 in a close final at Arnold Town FC. Read More →
MUSICAL TALENT IN RUDDINGTON
Ruddington resident, Sura Susso, is to release his debut album this month. Sura is an extremely talented young musician who comes from a deeply rooted traditional family of musicians. After playing both solo and in the Sekou Keita Quintet, Sura has since collaborated with the likes of Maximilian Baille and the duo Askew and Avis. He has also worked on a project to combine the theme of football with... Read More
PRIMARY SCHOOL PROBLEMS IN WEST BRIDGFORD
Our young son is due to start school this September. He is 16th on the admissions waiting list for his catchment school (West Bridgford Infants). He was not offered a place at any of the schools that we applied to. After three weeks, he has now been offered a school place. Our greatest concern is that by accepting an out of catchment school place, we have no certainty that his younger brother will... Read More
GREEN BIN CHARGING ISSUE
Regarding the issue of Rushcliffe Borough Council charging for green bin emptying, I’m pretty certain that I already pay within my Band D. However let’s do our sums, £25 for 25/26 fortnightly collections – that works out at £1 a time. From about mid-November to mid-March the bin doesn’t go out, say eight times, then we have £25 for 18 collections, now it’s £1.40 a time. How many people... Read More
I WILL PARK WHERE I WANT
I would like to reply to a letter regarding people parking in the parent and child spaces in Morrisons car park. I don’t have children and if there are other free child spaces I do indeed use them. This is only because the normal car spaces are far too small and I am sick of paying out of my own pocket to have nicks and dents removed when inconsiderate people bang into my car. Wayne Read More →
TOP SHOPS NEEDS A REVAMP
Is there any news on what is going to happen to the old Sun Valley building now that we have the gambling den in the old Woolworths spot? I reckon the whole of the top shops area is in bad need of a revamp. The choice of shopping is very limited and the gangs of chavs (the chippie now has its own gang) make the place look awful. It beats me why we need three frozen food shops (who eats that junk) and... Read More
OVER PRICED CLIFTON SHOPPING
We are, yet again, being charged high prices by the local store, as we did when it was the Co-op. The prices are rising each day and not by 2p but 20-30p. We only have the choice of not buying unless we go out of Clifton. It’s about time we got more choice of stores in Clifton. Robert Clifton Read More →
