KEYWORTH WAR MEMORIAL PLANS

Moves are in hand to relocate Keyworth’s war memorial from the grounds of the former British Legion building at the corner of Bunny Lane and Nottingham Road, to a more suitable site on Parish Council land.
Keyworth councillor, Sam Boote, said on his website: “Recent meetings of Keyworth Parish Council and the Royal British Legion have decided in principle to make this move in time for the new memorial to be ready for the Armistice and Remembrance services in November 2011. Local councillors are working to establish sources of funding for the project.
“It has not yet been decided whether to dismantle and re-erect the existing memorial, or to build a new one. This in turn would have implications for the choice of site, which could be either on the grass next to the Centenary Lounge, or near the Memorial Gates at the far end of the field opposite the Village Hall.”

What a shame that Rememberance Day in Keyworth is marred by a “war” about the memorial. The way to prevent wars is through dialogue.

Why waste our council tax on a new memorial when Cameron Ross keeps the existing one so well. As long as I have lived here, 43 years, the ceremony was held at the existing site, as it used to belong to the British Legion. It seems to me that the parish council have got their priorities wrong in getting rid of the litter picker as a small minority of the youth here are hell bent on ruining our village. Also the childrens’ park is a disgrace.
