BINGHAM’S PETER PUBLISHES THIRD NOVEL
Bingham author Peter Youds is about to publish the third novel in the ambitious Ties of Blood series. These are original historical novels which tell the gripping story of how a small British army, under-funded and poorly supplied, defied the might of Napoleon for seven years, before finally defeating his forces at Waterloo. The new book called ‘A Different Kind of War’, deals with events which took place exactly 200 years ago, and it features sieges, skirmishes and full-blooded battles.
The story is told through the adventures of a lively cast of characters – both real and imagined – and gives a taste of the drama of that desperate struggle taking place in Portugal and Spain all those years ago.
It is a tale packed with adventure, focusing on honour and betrayal, hope and despair, love and death.
The Ties of Blood series will run to eight novels and new titles will appear every year around the 200th anniversary of each significant event.
‘Alone With Glory’ (2008) concerned itself with the dramatic Corunna campaign and ‘The Colour of Blood’ (2009) told the tale of the British successes in the Douro/Talavera battles.
Peter Youds told The Local News: “Discovering what ordinary men and women had to go through during those days is fascinating for me and I want more people to find out about it.
“As well as the novels, the website (bicorn.co.uk) gives useful background to how people lived.
“This includes the recipes for the food they ate, the clothes they wore, the meaning of old-fashioned words, and all kinds of other information to back up the stories.
“These are the times that inspired ‘War and Peace’, ‘Vanity Fair’ and Jane Austen’s novels, as well as the tales of Patrick O’Brian, CS Forester and Bernard Cornwell.
“My own stories use fictional characters to describe very real events that influenced the way the world has developed right up to today.
“There is plenty of swashbuckling and romance, but the true history is also there, told from all sides.
“I hope readers will become as hooked as I am, and enjoy taking this epic journey with me.”
‘A Different Kind of War’ by Peter Youds is published by Bicorn Books and is available online.
