YOUNGSTERS CAUSING HASSLE

We feel compelled to respond to the letter from SM of Radcliffe who puts the blame for broken fencing along the Cliff Top on older dog walkers. We assume SM’s views are based on hearsay or why else haven’t they named and shamed the culprits to the local police or parish council? Is this the reason they also have not had the courage to put their full name on their letter?
As residents who live and have a gate on the Cliff Top, our actual experiences have been totally different. We have never had to call the police in the early hours of the morning to stop older people fighting behind our house, as we have had to do with teenagers. We have witnessed gangs of teenagers partying leaving broken fences, smashed bottles and kicked in gates. Four times in the past year we have had to clean obscene graffiti off the old Victorian walls near where we live on the Cliff Top, graffiti which is also sprayed over residents gates.
There are obviously exceptions but we can confirm that the majority of the problems on the Cliff Top are caused by the younger generation, as any Cliff Top resident or worker will tell you.
Overall we have no axe to grind with the youth of today, but do with people like SM who label a section of the community in defence of another without any proof.
