WEST BRIDGFORD CENTRE REVAMP

Pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users will benefit from a scheme that will give them better access to West Bridgford shops, cafes and park. The improvements are part of the third and final stage of the West Bridgford Environmental Improvement Scheme, which has been jointly funded by Nottinghamshire County Council and Ruschcliffe Borough Council.
Highways work will take place on Bridgford Road, from the junction with Central Avenue to Millicent Grove, and along Stratford Road. Once the work is completed, the town centre will boast improved pedestrian access and wheelchair friendly footpaths.
Cyclists will have more places to park their bikes securely. New lamp columns will be fitted and will be in keeping with the area.
Bus shelters will be refurbished and more bins will be placed along the roads. The crossing points on Millicent Grove will also be improved. This work complements previous town centre highways work from Gordon Square to Tudor Square, and work on Bridgford Road.
Councillor Richard Jackson said: “This hasn’t been an overnight job and we are really grateful to the local residents and visitors to West Bridgford who have demonstrated their support for the scheme and been patient whilst work has been undertaken.”
Debbie Mason added: “The first two phases were a great success and have been greatly appreciated by residents. This will improve the environment further and also enhance the streetscene. This is a great example of just how much can be achieved when two councils work together so well.”
