HELP FOR WILFORD SOCIAL AND BOWLS CLUB
Wilford Community Group have been instrumental in facilitating a grant for the benefit of Wilford Social and Bowls Club, through the auspices of the Nottinghamshire Community Foundation. A sum of £675 came from the Sports Relief Community Cash Fund and was used to publicise and support an open day at the club premises on Main Road in Wilford Village. The aim was to encourage a wider membership and offer the community tuition in lawn green bowling, whilst sampling pub lunches and refreshments.
Roger Steel, vice chair of Wilford Community Group, said: “We are extremely pleased that so many local residents attended during the day. The club were delighted to receive 30 new memberships and at least eight new bowling members. This was a remarkable achievement, but thoroughly deserved due to the hard work put in by the current members to make the day such a success. A big thank-you also to the Nottinghamshire Community Fund for helping with grant aid, to publicise the event. “We were gratified to receive excellent support from our local businesses in providing quality prizes for a charity raffle. This raised over £200 in aid of Marie Curie Nurses Nottinghamshire Appeal, thanks to the generosity of the public
“With the closure of a number of local community facilities in Wilford, it is pleasing to note such an enthusiastic response from the neighbourhood. This is one of Wilford’s hidden gems, with one of the county’s best bowling lawns.”
