SUCCESS FOR COTGRAVE COLTS
Cotgrave Colts U14s have won the league for the second season in a row. This is on the back of their league and cup double two years ago. They won the league this season in sensational style by winning their final game 5-4.But that’s not half the story. They were 4-1 downwith 15 minutes to go and the team they were facing, Hyson Green, were their title-rivals – so it was a winner-takes-all encounter.
Ian Bartle, Cotgrave Colts U14 manager, said: “These lads don’t know when they’re beaten and produced an amazing comeback to become champions again. A proud parent, Tony, said on the club’s website:
“The last few minutes were agonising as Hyson threw everything at Cotgrave and the final whistle was met with jubilation and a collective sight of relief from the Cotgrave fans. To their huge credit, all of the Hyson boys shook hands and congratulated their Cotgrave rivals, which is a real reflection of the respect and camaraderie that has built up over the years between the two teams.
“What an ending to a fantastic season. There have been ups and downs along the way, but all of the boys have played their part and have stuck together. It was this team spirit that kept them going as they stared defeat in the face. But they did not blink, instead they rolled their sleeves up and their never say die attitude enabled them to clinch a victory. Many congratulations to all involved, not least of all to Ian, Bill and Paul who have worked so hard to turn this fantastic bunch of lads into such a great football team.”
