CHORAL SOCIETY NEWS
By Sylvia Aldworth
It is now the end of our singing year. We rehearsed for our November concert and annual carol concert in the first term. In January 2010 we started work on ‘Samson’ by Handel. This was a difficult piece as we had 19 choruses to learn.
After all that effort the performance was a thrilling experience, backed by the Bingham Concert Orchestra whose playing rose successfully to the challenges of the score.
The soloists: Nicki Kennedy (soprano), Marie Elliot (mezzo-soprano), Edward James and Dominic Peckham (tenors) and Simon Thorpe (baritone), entered fully into the drama of the story, acting out their parts so that the oratorio became an opera.
The large audience were very appreciative and our conductor, Neville Ward, rated our performance as one of our best. After the AGM and the four week ‘Summer Sing’, we now enjoy our summer break.
The new term starts on Wednesday 8th September at 7.30pm and takes place in Carnarvon School on Nursery Road in Bingham. New members welcome and for details call 01949 839 991.
