YOUR COUNTRY(SIDE) NEEDS YOU

A local resident writes…
Recently a group of neighbours, two park rangers, and our man at the Cornerstone, planted some trees alongside Clifton Lane. An unremarkable event you might think – well not quite, stories do have backgrounds. However, what could emerge from this one is a positive hope.
The trees – an English Oak (Pendunculate) and two Field Maples – were chosen to compliment the six species hedgerow that was re-planted last autumn, with the help of a nearby school and Nottingham in Bloom. Woodland bulbs – Bluebells, Daffodils, and Snowdrops – were later added. Postcode Plants is a website where you’ll discover what the native flora of a place is – the plantlife our Nature and wildlife finds particularly useful.
Because here at Clifton (to some degree Silverdale) we have surrounding Green Belt/countryside, so it’s easier for us to encourage this in. There’s a lot of concern in the area at the moment, about a proposed ‘bolt-on’ town – which would irreversibly destroy that wonderful, agricultural, ‘Pastures and ‘Moor landscape, right next to us ’South of Clifton’.
But, if we each do what we’re able, to show a bit of care and pride towards our more natural environment here; why, others who would steal it away from us, could be seen-off. Please, officially write to or email Rushcliffe Borough Council (details are online or in the Yellow Pages) as soon as possible. There’s still time to object, with any planning reasons, to the proposed ‘bolt-on’ town, you must include your name and address, and quote reference number 09/01025/OUT.
