ROTARY ART EXHIBITION IN BINGHAM

The Rotary Club of Bingham & District held their annual art exhibition over the Easter weekend, which proved again to be a great success with a good steady flow of visitors throughout Saturday and Sunday. There were some 86 artists exhibiting between them just over 250 pictures, covering a wide-range of styles and media including watercolours, oils, acrylics, ink, etc.
There was also a display of the pictures and poems from local primary schools which were entered into the Rotary competition, forming part of the End Polio Now campaign.
During the Friday preview evening, the Mayor of Rushcliffe, Councillor Peter McGowan, presented awards to all the children that had taken part. The overall first place winner was 7-year-old Rebecca Parry, a pupil at Flintham Primary School.
The End Polio Now is a Rotary International project to make a determined push to eradicate Polio from the world. Polio, which was once widespread, has now been reduced to only four countries world-wide, due to the work and support from Rotary and other aid organisations. All Rotary Clubs have been asked to raise funds especially for this final determined effort. The Rotary Club of Bingham & District has been able to send £2,500 towards this fund and are grateful to all who have given their support.
All visitors to the exhibition were invited to vote for their favourite picture, which resulted in a picture entitled ‘Shiny Cliff Woods’ – a Watercolour by Artist Alan R. Potter from Kimberley – being awarded the Rotary Best in Show Trophy. This was presented by president Alan Hopwood. All the voting slips that had nominated the winner were put into a draw for a picture, donated by artist Barbara Martin, and the lucky winner of this painting was Margaret Barnett, The club raised around £1,900 for the art exhibition and raffle.
