GOLDEN AFTERNOON FOR CLIFTON KICKBOXING CLUB
The Clifton and East Leake PKA Kickboxing club held its first-ever interclub tournament against the Heanor Kickboxing Club last month. The event lasted a total of three hours and saw a total of 25 fights, including the Under-14s Challenge Cup, the Adults Open Weight Knockout Trophy and an additional nine match-up fights.
Martin Byrne, PKA club instructor, told The Local News: “All the fighters showed great grit and determination in their bouts, particularly the younger competitors.
“For most fighters this was their first opportunity to compete in a tournament of this style and the local fighters were able to please the crowd by winning a total of five gold medals, seven silver medals and two bronze medals, resulting in a resounding victory over the Heanor Club.
“Fight of the afternoon went to Andy Spencer of Clifton and Ryan Haynes from Heanor, both guys showed excellent skill and control putting on a real show of sportsmanship. All fighters are now looking forward to retain the Interclub Trophy at Heanor in September.”
