SUCCESSFUL TIMES FOR WILLOW BROOK

Back in September, Willow Brook Primary School in Keyworth, became the Rushcliffe
7-a-side football champions at Ruddington St. Peters, defeating Candleby Lane 1-0 in the final.
Last month, they became the Nottinghamshire Champions after two dramatic penalty shoot-outs in Sutton-in-Ashfield. The first a nail biting 5-4 sudden death victory over Greasley Beauvale in the semi-finals. It came down to the seventh penalty taker after the scores had finished 0-0 after extra time, Sophie Mann with the decisive spot kick.
In the final, Willow Brook took the lead against Lowes Wong of Southwell, through Ellie Brazil, but were pegged back late in the second half. Extra time finished with the score 1-1. Having already practiced penalties Willow Brook made no mistake firing home with their first four attempts to triumph 4-1, Lydia Tudor burying the winning one.
Coach Simon Tuckwell said: “It is such an amazing achievement to become Nottinghamshire champions, especially as the school only has 93 children in Key Stage 2. The girls were magnificent, they worked so hard and deserved their glory. We take penalties every time we practice and it paid off .I am so proud of all of them and they should be very proud too.”
On Saturday 20th March, they will face regional opposition at Grove Farm, Clifton, as they aim to emulate the 2009 achievements of Abbey Road, West Bridgford, and play at Wembley – in the National Schools Finals.
