OFFICERS AND PUBLIC PRAISED IN CEREMONY

Police officers, staff and members of the public from across South Nottinghamshire were praised in a commendations evening this week.
PCSO Richard Kennedy was commended for his help during a dangerous road collision while he was off duty. In the face of bad weather, fast moving traffic and collision debris, he escorted a family to safety. He also manoeuvred a damaged vehicle to the roadside, removing a woman and distressed child to safety.
Sgt Glenn Chambers, PCs Richard Craig, Paul Cash, Karen Crane, Keely Shooter, and Jon Lingard were praised for dealing with an incident at a football match in September last year. They helped save a man who had stopped breathing and swallowed his tongue after hitting his head. The officers raised the alarm and performed CPR. They also had to put a road closure in place so the man could get to hospital. He has since recovered well.
A number of police staff were also praised for their excellent work within the division, and several members of the public were also commended for helping others in their time of need. This included an incident in August last year where a woman intervened and stopped her neighbour from taking his own life.
Chief Superintendent John Busuttil, divisional commander for South Notts, said: “It was a great honour and pleasure to recognise officers and members of the public who work extremely hard for their communities day in and day out.  Those who received the commendations should be very proud of themselves, and they also represent the excellent work that is carried out by our officers every single day.”
