DAYNCOURT RAISING MONEY FOR HAITI
Students and staff from Dayncourt School in Radcliffe recently took part in events to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal. Students were invited to ‘Wear a hat for Haiti’, in addition to their usual school uniform and to pay 50p for the privilege. A variety of headgear graced the heads of both staff and students, including some very fetching cowboy hats, cloth caps, rabbit ears and bandannas.
Dayncourt’s Year 9 director of learning, Mrs Richings, told The Local News: “This event was just one of several ideas to raise money for the Haiti Appeal and was put forward to the School Council by Year 9 student, Maddison Green. Maddison felt very strongly that the school should raise money for this very worthwhile cause and the School Council were only too pleased to give their backing to this event.
Maddison also organised a car washing service for staff cars on Friday afternoon and got together a team of friends, Cara Pickering, Leisha Armstrong, Ellie Levell, Chrissie Hollingsworth, Alysha Clark, Jack Hogan, George Hubbard and Eddy Robinson, who went out on a bitterly cold day with their buckets and sponges. The cars were gleaming in the winter sunshine by the end of the day and staff were charged £5 each. These fundraising efforts have resulted in a donation of over £200 to the Haiti Appeal.”
