ARE YOU READY FOR THIS YEAR’S GENERAL ELECTION?
While the date for this year’s general election is not yet known, Rushcliffe Borough Council is urging residents not to wait until the official date has been announced before they secure their right to vote.
Jeff Saxby, Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Elections Manager, told The Local News: “The time between the election date being announced and the last chance to register to vote can be a matter of a few days. If you are not on the electoral register, you won’t be able to vote.”
Chris Hinde, the Midlands Regional Manager of the Electoral Commission, added: “Sometimes people don’t realise they need to re-register every year. Rushcliffe Borough Council sent you a registration form last autumn.
“If you are not sure you returned it, or if you have moved house since then and have not registered with your new details, you need to register now. Don’t let anything stop you having your say on Election Day.”
Registering to vote only takes a few minutes. You can print off a form from the Electoral Commission website, the independent elections watchdog, at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk or call Rushcliffe Borough Council on 0115 981 9911 for an application form.
