PREVENTING AND REDUCING CRIME IN BRIDGFORD
By Bob Cash
West Bridgford Neighbourhood Watch Group
The Police Authority, Beat Police officers, Special Constables and Police Community Support Officers work as a team to prevent and reduce crime, plus investigate and apprehend offenders. This effort is aided and supported by the Rushcliffe Borough Council in various ways, and also with the contribution from those volunteers who run Neighbourhood Watch schemes throughout the council wards in West Bridgford.
In addition, there is a Police Crime Reduction manager (Pete Ainsley) and a Neighbourhood
Watch Support Worker (Wendy Morris). The Police and the Local Authority cannot work in isolation, and the vigilance of business owners and the public contribute to the overall aim of keeping our community safe.
A few years ago the Police reorganised their beat areas so that their boundaries coincided with your Local Council Ward boundaries. In addition to the regular beat managers’ surgeries held within each ward, Local Action Groups (LAGs) were set-up to cover either one or two council wards and they meet either every two or three months. In attendance at these action group meetings are representatives of the respective council wards and the police. They are open to the public and some are very well attended. The purpose is to obtain views from residents within the wards to the extent that priorities may be set in accordance with the needs of the local community.
Throughout West Bridgford there are a number of Neighbourhood Watch schemes run by volunteers. These cover many households throughout West Bridgford, Gamston and Edwalton.
The Police provide crime figures on a weekly basis, listed by Council Ward/Beat police area. These figures are very useful and provide an opportunity for householders receiving them to take appropriate security precautions to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of an offence. Any member of the public, if they are interested, may register to receive such information about criminal activity and potential risks. Remember to be for warned is to be prepared.
If you would like to receive the information, that is provided freely by the police, then please contact Wendy Morris (Neighbourhood Watch Support Worker) via email atÂ
