HAYWARD HOUSE CHARITY TRIP

The sixth Hayward House Charity trip is taking place this year and the destinations this year will be based on Rouen in Normandy, with visits to Honfleur, Bayeux and the Arromanches beach. It is scheduled to run from the 18th to 22nd July.
Organiser, Hannie Woolsey, told The Local News: “I am in the process of issuing the introductory notice. If you would like to come, the crossing to France will be by ferry to Calais, so if you have just developed an aversion to tunnels you will be OK.
“I am sure many of you who have made the trip before will be delighted to know that our doughty driver, Des, will be with us again.”
Last year’s trip was to Bruges Ghent and Antwerp and when all the receipts were gathered in Hannie was able to send a cheque for £1,999 to the charity.
Hannie added: “Special thanks are due to Michael Wright, the owner-director of Riviera Travel who continues his generous support of this event. Once again June mobilised the NHS contingent, Jackie and Angela organised raffle and quiz for the journey, former participants came along and brought friends with them.
“Most were familiar with Bruges but it is a place which stands up well to repeat visits; the other two cities were for most of us a very agreeable discovery.
“We all had our adventures in the course of it all, but as usual Shirley topped the league. On this occasion with her chat with the Crown Prince of Belgium and his wife in Antwerp cathedral. The royal couple were visiting for Belgium’s National Day.”
