COLLEGE SCORES WITH NEW FOOTBALL CENTRE

Notts County coach Michael Johnson (pictured here middle right) officially opened South Nottingham College’s £2.4 million football centre in Clifton. The college, in partnership with Clifton Football Club, received funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Football Foundation, to develop facilities at its Charnwood Centre, located on Farnborough Road.
A new full-sized, floodlit, all-weather pitch was built, in addition to a new changing room block and two computer classrooms. The pitch is already used by the college and Clifton FC, and is also available for general hire. In addition, four full-size grass football pitches were renovated, three on the college site and one at Clifton FC. Changing facilities at Clifton FC’s ground were also improved.
The Football Foundation, which is funded by the Premier League, The FA and Government, provided the college with a grant of £892,836 towards the scheme. The Foundation also previously awarded the college £400 worth of free kit and equipment through its junior kit scheme.
David Drury, director of market development at South Nottingham College, said: “It is a very exciting opportunity which will provide professional sports facilities and a first-class learning centre for Clifton. We hope to encourage local people back into education using sport as a vehicle providing excellent education for post-16s for years to come.”
The college currently runs sport, art, media and photography courses from its Charnwood Centre and has adult education provision at its Clifton Centre on the site of the library offering I.T and adult leisure courses.
