THE FOOD CONSULTANT’S TOP TIPS FOR THE NEW YEAR

1. Eat three meals a day to keep blood sugar levels stable and help avoid cravings. Never miss breakfast.

2. Replace refined, white carbohydrates with complex carbs, as these contain more vitamins, minerals and filling fibre.

3. Add protein to each meal and snack (e.g. fish, nuts, seeds, pulses & grains). Protein takes longer to digest and makes you feel fuller for longer.

4. Don’t be ‘fat phobic’ and eat good, essential fats found in nuts, seeds and oily fish.

5. Avoid sugar and artificial sweeteners. Excess sugar is converted into fat and artificial sweeteners just make you crave more sweet things.

6. Avoid salty and processed foods, as they can cause loss of valuable nutrients from your body and cause bloating and water retention.
