PENNY BACKING GREENFIELDS CAMPAIGN

Rushcliffe resident Penny Poyzer is backing a local campaign group setup to represent the interests of all residents in the borough in defending the green belt land against development projects. Rushcliffe Greenfields is particularly worried about the proposed new footballstadium for Gamston and large-scale housing developments.
TV star Penny told The Local News: “Green belt land is a precious resource and it is non-renewable. The proposed scheme to build houses on a floodplain contravenes planning guidance and more to the point common sense. The idea of further eroding the small islands of green between our conurbation’s by building a 45,000 capacity football stadium that will never be full is an added nonsense.
“There is no infrastructure to support this, no public transport and certainly this location is not inclusive for people without cars and on low incomes. The amount of land that will be covered in tarmac and concrete willadd to the risk of localised flooding – and we have too many examples of that to be ignored.
“We must fight this proposal and for a variety of reasons. We must have far greater democracy over decisions that affect not only our futures but those of future generations of not just humans but flora and fauna too. This is as far as I’m concerned is a sacred trust.”
