WEST BRIDGFORD RESIDENTS WELCOME NEW BUS SHELTERS
A community scheme to place two bus shelters on Rugby Road in West Bridgford, has been completed by Nottinghamshire County Council. The scheme aims to give people, elderly people in particular, protection against the wind and rain when they are waiting for their bus.
It cost £8,000 and was funded by the County Council’s Building Better Communities initiative. The two shelters have been placed on opposite sides of Rugby Road, at the junction of Burnside Road. Their features include extra side protection and seating, plus there are future plans for an electronic timetable.
Nottinghamshire County Councillor, Gordon Wheeler, who represents the local area, said: “The scheme came about because many residents, particularly the elderly, felt exposed to the winter weather whilst waiting for their buses.
“We wanted to reduce the stress of their journey and applied for Building Better Communities funding to provide two new shelters on Rugby Road. I am very pleased that their concerns were taken on board and we were able to assist.”
Nottinghamshire County Councillor, Richard Butler, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, added: “I think this is a very beneficial community scheme and will make the journeys of many elderly passengers and young families a lot easier.”
