MAKE YOUR VIEWS KNOWN ABOUT GREEN BELT PLANS
Full details have emerged of plans by Nottingham City Council, some local land-owners and Nottingham Forest Football Club for the green belt site in Gamston. In addition to a proposed World Cup stadium, housing will be supported by schools, a retail centre and a health centre, as well as country parks and community sporting facilities. The parties behind the scheme have made a submission to Rushcliffe Borough Council to allocate this site for development in their emerging development plan. Details on the proposal can be viewed on the following website thebigpicture-rushcliffe.com
The Big Picture site is designed to find the views
of local residents. The Borough Council previously considered the land inappropriate for housing development. In the summer 2009 further consultation was undertaken but at that time residents did not know about the scheme.
Local residents believe the proposals raise many questions:
- Are the football supporters local or do the majority come from across the river increasing traffic congestion?
- Immediate congestion at the A52 roundabout may be alleviated by the A52 realignment, but what happens at the traffic lights in Radcliffe-on-Trent and Wheatcroft roundabout? Queues already exist elsewhere in the area.
- Housing is required in the borough but is this the right site?
- Can the scheme be integrated with housing at Gamston?
- Do we need more community sporting facilities? The County Council recently completed the facilities off Regatta Way.
- Do we need three Country Parks? We already have informal open areas.
